Eden Prairie Takes Down MPLS Post 540

Eden Prairie, Mn - Minneapolis Post Office 540 fell behind early in an 11-1 loss to Eden Prairie on Thursday evening.

Eden Prairie opened the scoring in the first inning, when Joey Danielson doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. Then Eden Prairie scored five runs in the fourth inning. The big inning came thanks to a walk by Zachary Elliott, a single by Tyler Donahue, and a double by Mitchell Olson.

Tyson Stritesky took the win for Eden Prairie. He only surrendered one run on four hits over five innings, striking out one. Jake Garrison took the loss for Post 540, allowing five hits and seven runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out two.

Jake Erickson went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Post 540 in hits. Eden Prairie collected ten hits on the day. Donahue and Danielson each managed multiple hits for Eden Prairie. Olson, Danielson and Noah Matousek all collected doubles.

Eden Prairie will play Wayzata at Braemar Field (Edina) on Friday afternoon at 3:30pm.

Shepard Shuts Out Winona Post #9

Ben Shepard pitches a gem versus Winona.

 

Eden Prairie, Mn - Benjamin Shepard didn't allow a single run as Eden Prairie defeated Winona Post #9 8-0 on Thursday in the first game of the American Legion State tournament. Shepard allowed just one hit.

Mitchell Olson led Eden Prairie to victory by driving in five runs. He went 3-for-4 at the plate. Olson drove in runs on a double in the first, a groundout in the second, a single in the fourth, and a double in the fifth.

Eden Prairie got things moving in the first inning. Eden Prairie scored two runs when Olson doubled.

A single by Jacob French in the seventh inning was a positive for Winona.

Shepard earned the win for Eden Prairie. He lasted seven innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out 14 and walking zero.

Sam Nascak took the loss for Winona. He went four innings, allowing five runs on five hits and striking out four.

Eden Prairie totaled eight hits in the game. Olson and Zachary Elliott each collected multiple hits for Eden Prairie. Olson went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Eden Prairie in hits. Eden Prairie was sure-handed in the field not allowing any errors.

French led Winona with one hit in three at bats.

EP Legion Advances to State Tourney


EP Legion had quite week winning it's Sub-Section (#3) outright, with wins over Chanhassen and Edina Sunday, here's how it happened.

 

  • GAME 1: Chanhassen Cavaliers Post 580 Falls To Eden Prairie Legion
  • Bloomington, Mn - Brandt Thompson got the win for Eden Prairie Legion. He surrendered two runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out six.  Lucas Anderson threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
  • Jack Garrison took the loss for Chanhassen Cavaliers Post 580. He went six innings, allowing four runs on 11 hits, striking out five and walking one.
  • Chanhassen saw the ball well today, racking up nine hits in the game.  TJ Truso, Wyatt Rudolf, and Will Kaeding each managed multiple hits for Chan.  Kaeding, Rudolf, and Truso each managed two hits each
  • Eden Prairie Legion totaled 11 hits.  Noah Matousek, Anderson, and Mitchell Olson all managed multiple hits for Eden Prairie.  Matousek went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead EP in hits.

GAME 2: EP Defeats Edina for Sub-State Championship 10-2
 
Bloomington, Mn - Eden Praire Legion powered their way past Edina Post 471, 10-2  and winning the American Legion Sub-State #3 Championship out-right. 
  • EP got the scoring going in the first inning with a Jordan Amudson RBI single. Edina knotted the game up at two in the top of the fifth inning when Carter Theis single and drove in one. Then it all broke open. The runs, and the rain.
  • All-in-all, Eden Prairie racked up seven hits on the day.  Noah Matousek and Zach Elliott managed multiple hits for Eden Prairie, both notching doubles along the way. Joey Danielson put the game out of reach with a grand slam just before the skies opened up. The game was eventually called in the bottom of the 6th. 
  • Spencer Puitt had a nice showing for Eden Prairie throwing a complete game, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out one over the 6 inning shortened game.
  • Will Haben started the game for Edina and surrendered two runs on six hits over five innings, striking out one and walking one.  Chester Dixon threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen
  • Both EP and Edina will advance to the American Legion State Tournament starting this Thurday. Edina is an automatic qualifier for serving this years tournament finals host. 13AA Earns Sportsmanship Award

The Owatonna Huskies Bullpen Club in partnership with Youth 1st, Federated Insurance, Jostens, Pearson, CashwiseBennerotte & Associates, Jaguar Communications, The Retrofit Companies, US Bank, Plaza Morena, Great River Energy and the Minnesota Twins Community Fund have selected  the Eden Prairie Baseball Association’s 13AA Baseball Team as the recipient of a Youth 1st Team Award for their outstanding sportsmanship during the 2018 Owatonna Baseball Tournaments..

 

The Youth 1st Team Award recognizes positive behavior from players, coaches and everyone associated with the team (parents, fans and spectators).  We are placing the emphasis on how you play the game, which is ultimately more important than if you win or lose.” said Mark Arjes, Founder/Director of Youth 1st. It has become increasingly difficult to find and retain coaches and officials for youth sports because of the abuse that they take during games.  We believe it is time to model and encourage values-based actions, creating what we call a Conduct 1stenvironment where the focus is on the kids, competitive energies are kept in check and officials and opponents are respected.”

Fall Ball Registration is Open

The EP Baseball Association is excited to announce its 1st Fall Ball Season. We will provide structure in forming teams with coaches and uniforms. We will play other metro area teams on Sundays for 5 weekends. Registration is now open HERE

Dates:

  • Fall Evaluations – August 4th, 2018 at 9:00 am -  Miller Park. Our goal is to have balanced teams.
  • Season starts – September 9th for 5 weeks of baseball games (2 games every Sunday) and 2-4 voluntary practices in the month of August prior to the season starting.
  • Seasons ends on October 7th, 2018

Details

  • Cost:    $ 125 per player – Jersey, hat, coaches will be provided
  • Individual players may register on line HERE
  • Teams may also register – a coach with a complete team for Fall Baseball may register by emailing
  • Ages:    9-17 years old. Players age as of April 30, 2019
  • Players will play up a level from this summer. For example, Summer 10U will play Fall 11U.
